I
started my journalistic career writing about new technology, so found
myself in science parks and micro chip plants all over Europe and the
USA, memorably in California and Arizona. I soon found my travels more
interesting to write about than the computer revolution, but there are
many who would disagree.
After editing two computer magazines and writing a book about Women in
Computing, I moved into consumer journalism covering lifestyle and
travel. I edited Arabel, the first glossy woman’s magazine aimed at Arab
women living in London, and also London Portrait magazine, one of the
early free distribution glossy lifestyle publications in the capital.
I was involved in the launch of Caribbean World magazine in 1990 and was
Editor in Chief until 2007, visiting and writing about many of the
islands, also interviewing a number of politicians and personalities. I
introduced a section ‘The Caribbean world of Homes & Interiors’ focusing
on real estate in the area and helped launch the magazine’s website.
I am a member of Women in Journalism, The British Guild of Travel Writers
and The
British Society of Magazine Editors.

SPECIALITIES
Since making the decision to pursue a freelance career I have
continued to write about the Caribbean as well as many other long
haul destinations for The Sunday Telegraph, Square Mile magazine,
Real Travel, Selling Long Haul, Travel Weekly, City AM and in
flight magazines.
I have developed a passion for Africa, particularly Ethiopia and
Tanzania and I am interested in tourism in the developing world,
as well as architecture and archaeology. I have recently started
to contribute to a travel section in Current World Archaeology
In addition, I continue to write about overseas property
development for City publications and cover tourism for the travel
trade.

Barbuda: Dreamy days and starry nights in the Caribbean
On Barbuda’s Long
Bay, we eat breakfast at the top of the Lighthouse admiring the stunning
360 degree view of the Caribbean. A frigate bird passes by, but
otherwise there’s nothing in sight. At night, we return to the
lighthouse for cocktails. There are stars by the million, but we feel
like the only people on earth.

Dreadin' It - To Jamaica's Bob Marley Museum
‘We think it’s
marvellous that you ladies have come on this trip’ squeaked two young
women who were occupying the seats in front of us on the five-hour Zion
Bus tour taking us from Ocho Rios, Jamaica to the Bob Marley Mausoleum,
Nine Mile. The village of Nine Mile in the rural parish of St Ann is
where Bob Marley was born and where he is buried.

Ethiopia
- Could it become a tourist destination?
We emerge blinking into the Ethiopian sunshine like Indiana Jones coming
up from an archaeological adventure, to find a hermit has made his home
in one of the holes in the rocks around the churches of Lalibela.
Remains of mummified bodies are piled neatly in the walls, their dry
brown bony toes sticking out obligingly for passing tourists to
photograph.
