. . . . .
Born
in Sheffield, England in 1960 Duncan ran his own private museum from the
age of ten before going on to read Ancient History and Archaeology at
Birmingham University. Together with his father Trevor, Duncan co-wrote
and illustrated four highly successful books on the hidden corners of
Sheffield and Yorkshire, and was the author of a best-selling
topographical book on the county. Still a passionate collector he now
tries to restrict his habit to travel books, whilst also enjoying
gardening, natural history, and music.

Duncan is an
accomplished freelance photographer currently using a Nikon D40X
digital single-lens reflex. He favours architectural, landscape
and urban subjects and enjoys recording the essence of a place,
being equally happy photographing iconic landmarks as well as
little-known hidden corners. Duncan has taken most of the pictures
used in his many books and articles.
In 2003 Duncan embarked on an ambitious five-year project to
discover, photograph, and write about the hidden corners of some
of the great European capital cities. His findings are being
published in a unique series of books called the “Only in…”
guides:
Throughout the 1990s Duncan co-wrote a series of popular
guidebooks to the hidden corners of his home town of Sheffield, as
well as the county of Yorkshire in which the city lies:
Duncan has specialist knowledge of Vienna, Budapest, Prague, and
Berlin, together with a selection of high quality pictures of
each. To this list will soon be added Paris.
Duncan currently divides his time between
England and Mainland Europe. Please contact him by
email.
