Donna
Dailey writes for national and international newspapers and magazines,
and for websites. Her work has won four prestigious travel writing
awards. She has also written or contributed to 25 guidebooks for major
travel publishers.
Her travels have taken her down the Rio San Juan into Nicaragua’s rain
forest, across the Australian Outback, to ancient sites in Jordan and
Tunisia, and to the game reserves of Kenya and Uganda.
She has hiked across the Rockies and the desert canyons of the American
Southwest, and joined in music sessions in the pubs of Ireland and
Scotland.
Her appetite for food and drink stories has had her eating buffalo in
Denver and billy goat in the Loire Valley, sipping sherry in Spain’s
bodegas, and taken her from the gourmet restaurants of Paris to Valencia
in search of the perfect paella.

Donna
has a Journalism degree from the University of Northern Colorado. She
speaks basic Spanish. Before moving to London she worked for US
publications and in television. She has been a freelance travel writer
and photographer since 1993, and has worked as a Managing Editor for
Insight Guides. In addition to Travelwriters UK, she is also a member of
the British Guild of Travel Writers and the Outdoor Writers’ Guild.

Daily Mail, Essentially America, CNN Traveller, Holiday magazine, the Independent on Sunday and
Global Adventure, as well as airline and hotel magazines and other
specialist travel publications.
She has won travel writing awards from the British Guild of Travel
Writers and the Visit USA Association for her articles.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Donna takes
photographs for many of her own guidebooks and articles. Her
travel photography has also featured in other travel guides,
including the Time for Food: Venice (cover shot),
the Time for Food: Paris and the National
Geographic Guide to Greece, and in such publications as The
Times, The Observer, Daily Express, Evening Standard,
Wanderlust, Global Adventure, Classic Travel, CNN Traveller and
Essentially America.

web publication. One of her features, All Aboard for Bangla Town,
was the first web article to win a major travel writing award (British Guild of Travel Writers
Awards).

In Search of the Perfect Paella
There is only one meal that makes a trip to Spain complete:
paella. As far as the British are concerned, this mixture of rice,
chicken and seafood with the odd bit of veg thrown in is Spain’s
national dish. But in a land where regional gastronomy is taken
very seriously, Spaniards wring their hands at this notion. For
true paella comes from Valencia — everything else is just rice.
